William P. "Bill" Woods Jr., age 82, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 15, 2009 at the Franklin United Methodist Community. He was a resident of Trafalgar.

Bill was born Nov. 17, 1926 in Morgan County to the late William Patrick Sr. and Murphy Della (Long) Woods. He married Helen Louise (Walker) Woods on Sept. 30, 1950 at the First Christian Church in Morgantown. She lovingly survives.

Other survivors include two sisters: Nila Jo Lasiter and her husband, William of Trafalgar and Mildred Blackburn and her husband, Jerry of Bloomington; one brother: Robert Dale Woods and his wife, Anna of Martinsville; several nieces and nephews.

Billy was preceded in death by one son: Patrick Woods; and two sisters: Elizabeth Platt and Martha Woods.

He was a 1944 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to serve as a Sergeant E-5 with the United States Army during the Korean War.

Bill retired in 1987 as an Engineer from Tousley Bixler in Indianapolis after 33 ½ years of service. He was a member of the Laborers & HOD Carriers local Union in Indianapolis.

Other memberships include the First Christian Church of Morgantown, since 1950, where he was a past elder and trustee for more than 30 years. Bill also was a member of the Indiana Chapter of the Good Sam Camping Club where he held offices as past historian and security. He was the last charter member of the Indianapolis Good Sam Chapter 14 and was a member of the Wagon Masters where he worked RV shows. Bill enjoyed volunteering at Johnson Memorial Hospital and at the Johnson County Library. He also enjoyed playing golf and played basketball on an independent league for more than 15 years when he was younger.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood with military graveside rites by the Greenwood Honor Guard.
