Man shot in leg with .22 caliber rifle
Updated on: 07.28.14

One man has a gunshot wound to the leg and another man is in jail but not on charges for pulling the trigger of the .22 caliber rifle that reportedly did the damage.

During the early morning hours of July 28, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office received notification from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office that 35-year-old Adam S. Wagler had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

An investigation led to the home of 58-year-old Joseph L. Weddle on Hornettown Road in northern Brown County.

Detective Scott Southerland reported in a news release that drug paraphernalia and small amounts of what is believed to be methamphetamine were discovered, and Weddle was arrested.

Weddle admitted to firing one shot from a .22 caliber rifle when Wagler confronted him in Weddle’s front yard.

Wagler’s condition was not known as of Monday afternoon.

The investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

The Brown County prosecutor’s office will determine what, if any, shooting-related charges will be filed against Weddle.

Prosecutor Jim Oliver said he intends to ask the court to keep Weddle in jail.

Weddle was out on bond in three unrelated criminal cases pending in Brown Circuit Court. In those cases, Weddle faces a total of 11 felonies and one misdemeanor.
