Howard L. Joslin, 88, Mount Auburn

Howard L. Joslin, 88, of Mount Auburn,  passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday morning, June 18, 2014. 

Howard was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Nashville, to the late Clarence and Nelle (King) Joslin. Howard  was honorably discharged from the United States Army for service to his country during WWII. Howard served in the European Theater and fought at the Battle of the Bulge, he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal for his sacrifice.

Howard moved from Nashville to the Cambridge City/ Mount Auburn area and had lived in that community for the past 63 years.

He married the former Betty Lou Longnecker in Morgantown, Dec. 20, 1952.

Howard was owner and operator of Gateway Gas & Oil for many years and enjoyed country music, NASCAR racing, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a member of Cambridge City Church of the Nazarene, Leroy Tout American Legion Post #338 of Dublin, and Disabled American Veterans Association.

Survivors include his spouse of 61 years; children, Anita Joslin of Cambridge City, Leslie Joslin of Dublin, Roy Joslin of Towson, Maryland, Troy Joslin of Fishers; grandchildren, Daryl Smith, Todd Eblen, Melissa Dick, Sherrie Tiernan, Jason Joslin, Misty Prather, Tracie Rogers, Stacie Joslin, Haley Joslin, Stephanie Spellman, Anastacia Spellman; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Roberts; and brother, Hurschel Joslin, both of Nashville.

Howard was preceded in death by two daughters, Diana Eblen and 4-year-old Teresa Joslin; brother, Lowell Joslin; and sister, Evelyn Louise Tays.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 23, at the funeral home with Pastors Darrell Bertram and Steve Cox officiating. 

Burial with military honors by United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City.
