Boil alert issued for northern Brown County
Updated on: 06.16.14

Brown County Water Utility has issued a boil water advisory alert for portions of northern Brown County.

The alert went into effect at 11 a.m. June 16.

The areas affected are 21-146 Bailey Lane; 175-192 Cabin Creek Lane; 475-991 Fruitdale Drive; 24-1637 Fruitdale Road; 599-728 Fruitridge Circle; 657-661 Fruitridge Court; 5793-5895 Haggard Road; 85-1034 Hornettown Road; 5850-9980 Old Haggard Road; 5953 Old State Road 135 South; 4417-9933 State Road 135 North; and 4695-6000 State Road 135 South, Morgantown.

The advisory is expected to be over at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 18.

Repair of a leak affected a water main. The utility warned that customers may experience low water pressure or water outage, discoloration and/or air in their water.

A news release states that customers should use care when doing laundry if their water is discolored, especially with whites in the next few days after the repair.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you,” the release states.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has recommended that Brown County Water Utility issue a boil water notice to its customers.

During the advisory, bring all cooking and drinking water to a full boil for five minutes before using. This does not include water used for bathing and laundry. It is only water used for human consumption.

Brown County Water Utility will be taking two consecutive water samples, within 24 hours of each other, to assure the water is satisfactory for consumption.

“Thank you for your patience, as we repair or work on the water main near you,” the release stated. “If you have any further questions, you may contact our office.”

That number is 988-6611.
