Malcolm Dwight King, 89, North Vernon

Malcolm Dwight King, 89, North Vernon, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Mr. King was born July 1, 1924, in Indiana, son of Paul and Hazel Matthews King. He married Mary E. Sharp Feb. 1, 1945, in Scipio; she survives.

Mr. King worked in quality control for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, retiring in 1982 after 37 years. He attended Brown’s Corner Chapel in Scipio and enjoyed farming, raising cattle and spending time with his family. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1943 until 1945.

He is survived by his wife, Mary King of North Vernon; four daughters, Marsha (J.J.) White and Kathy King, both of North Vernon, Diane (Mark) Spurgeon of Seymour and Karen Burgess of New Albany; a daughter-in-law, Beth King of Scipio; 12 grandchildren, Kathleen Stephens of Bowling Green, Ky., Aaron (Kari) Spurgeon and Allison (Brad) Johnson, both of Columbus, Andrew Spurgeon, Angela (David) Foster and Danielle (Pete) Storm, all of Seymour,  Casey (Leslie) Patterson and Matthew Patterson, both of North Vernon, Brad King and Rachel Wahlman, both of Scipio, Allison Tanner of Nineveh, and Kevin White of Brown County; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dennis L. and Thomas D. King; a grandson, Kristopher Stephens; five brothers, Truxton, Herbert, Herschel, Vernon and Clinton King; and a sister, Neva Brown.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Friends can call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8,  and one hour prior to the service Friday, May 9. Burial will be at Reddington Cemetery in Reddington.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
