Learn about home repair grants at Stellar meeting Tuesday
Updated on: 04.21.14

At the Tuesday, April 22 community meeting about Stellar Communities, Nashville residents can learn about an opportunity to get grants for home improvements.

The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. at Salt Creek Golf Retreat.

Its purpose is to explain the process that Nashville/Brown County is involved in now as one of six finalists for the Stellar Community award.

If Nashville/Brown County gets the award, this community could receive between $10 and $20 million for a host of community improvement projects.

One of the projects on the Stellar application was to help Nashville homeowners make essential repairs to their homes.

Eligible repairs may include work to the electric, heating/cooling or plumbing systems; roof work; window and door replacement or repairs; lead-based paint removal; or "aging in place" modifications to allow for safety and greater handicap accessibility.

Up to $20,000 could be granted to homeowners.

Eligible homes must be single-family, occupied by the owner, insured and on a permanent foundation. Most mobile homes are not eligible. Homes in contract sales are not eligible, either.

Grant recipients also must meet guidelines for total household income: $36,050 for one person in the household, $41,200 for two, $46,350 for three, $51,450 for four, $55,600 for five and $59,700 for six.

Applications and more information will be available at the April 22 meeting.

The town/county has not received funding for any of these projects. It only will be available if Nashville/Brown County is named a Stellar Community. That announcement will come this summer.
