John Kocher, 64, Brown County

John J. Kocher, 64, passed away Thursday evening, March 27, 2014, at his home in Brown County.

He was born Aug. 7, 1949, in Indianapolis, to Mark C. and Barbara G. (Bechert) Kocher. John was a 1967 graduate of Center Grove High School and went on to serve his country as a private with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Cheryl Larson Jan. 10, 1976, in Franklin. She preceded him in death Aug. 25, 2011, after 35 devoted years of marriage.

John has been employed for the last 35 years with Allison Transmission in Indianapolis as a tinsmith.

He was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Nashville, Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 514 and United Auto Workers Local 933 in Indianapolis. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Florida for deep sea fishing and hunting. John was a loyal fan of Notre Dame football and basketball.

John is survived by two sons, Chadwick K. Kocher and Christian J. Kocher, both of Bloomington; one sister, Phyllis Wagner of Greenwood; one brother, Mark Kocher of Camby; and two grandchildren, Tevin K. Roberts of Williams and Dylan Kocher of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

John's wishes were to be cremated with a celebration of life service to be conducted at a later date for family and friends. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
