Richard Downey, 76, Morgantown

Richard P. Downey, 76, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, March 25, 2014, at Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. He was a lifelong resident of Morgantown.

Richard was born May 29, 1937, in La Porte, to Joseph A. and Elma F. (Everling) Downey. He was a 1955 graduate of Morgantown High School and was a member of the Morgantown Baptist Church. Richard was an emergency room and surgical technician for Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He retired after 25 years of service.

He is survived by his children, Lesa Douglas, Mark Downey and Patrick (Cheryl) Downey. Richard will be remembered by his sister, Peggy Quillen; and two grandchildren, Alyssa Downey and Shelby Downey.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William J. “Bill” Downey.

He enjoyed the outdoors by working in his garden and landscaping around his lake. Richard also enjoyed watching wildlife and spending time with his family.

The Rev. Ben Swopes will conduct a graveside service Friday, March 28 at 11 a.m. at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Funeral services were entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
