Ellen Gaye Eversole, 89, Deputy

Ellen Gaye Eversole, 89, of Deputy, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, in Scottsburg.

Born March 24, 1924, in Grassy Branch, Ky., she was daughter of the late Horry and Bertha (Deaton) Campbell. She was married on Aug. 3, 1941, to James C. Eversole Jr., who died on Sept. 18, 2008.

Ellen was a homemaker and worked for a short time during World War II for Morgan Foods. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Deputy and Deputy Homemakers Club, and loved traveling, taking care of her family, and spoiling her children and grandchildren, as well as her husband. She liked basketball, and was always ready to watch, especially Kentucky and the Pacers.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara G. Uebel; two sisters, Gladys and Avis Campbell; and three brothers, Deane, Eugene and Clayborne Campbell.

Survivors include a son, James B. Eversole (wife, Shirley) of Columbus; three daughters, Carolyn J. Eversole of Hanover,  Doris J. Lewis (husband, Marvin) of Shelbyville, Ky. and Robin A. Baker (husband, Tom) of Nashville; a sister-in-law, Ruth Eversole of Hamilton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Mary McClanahan, Shawn Uebel, Leslie Webster, Bill Eversole, Trisha Smith, Sara Dorgan and Ryan Eversole; 10 great-grandchildren, Cody Kelly, Elijah Steele, Dennis and Daniel Webster, Chance Uebel, James Anthony, Tyler and Ashlea Eversole, Tharan Smith and Nolan James Eversole; five stepgrandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted March 20 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, with burial at Bethany Baptist Cemetery. Visitation was March 19 and 20.

Memorial contributions can be made to Ellen's church or Bethany Cemetery Fund, in care of Collins Funeral Home.
