Charles Eugene Richardson, 85, Bloomington
Charles Eugene Richardson, 85, Bloomington, passed away at his residence Monday morning, March 17, 2014.

He was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Monroe County to Lloyd and Mary Matlock Richardson.

Charles was owner of C.E. Richardson Excavating Company for 46 years, and maintenance contractor for East Monroe, Bean Blossom, Patricksburg, Cataract, Town of Nashville, Washington Township, Stipp Road and Shadyside Road Water companies. Prior to this, he worked for Indiana Bell as a cable splicer in cities as far north as Lafayette  and as far south as Evansville for 16 years.

He served in the United States Army; was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church for 50 years; Bloomington Masonic Lodge #22; Scottish Rite of Indianapolis and York Rite; American Legion in Bloomington; Flying Hoosiers Motorcycle Club; and was active in numerous other community projects.

Charles is survived by his wife of 55 years, Thelma Neal Hensley Richardson; and sisters, Wilma Fiscus and Peggy Krebbs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Mary Richardson; siblings, Dorothy Lammey, Barbara Noyes, Melville Richardson, Phyllis Naylor, Maude Reynolds and Alice Whitlow.

Funeral services for Charles were to be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 Old Highway 37 South. Rev. Harold Godsey was to preside and burial to follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation was March 20 at the funeral home, with a Masonic service that day.
