Eagles' Coach Fleetwood retiring
Updated on: 03.06.14

Brown County Eagles Coach Roger Fleetwood has coached his last basketball season.

Fleetwood told his players Wednesday that he had turned in his resignation. The boys played in sectional Tuesday night in Brazil and did not advance to the second round.

His retirement will be effective Monday, March 17, after the sports awards program.

In addition to coaching, Fleetwood is retiring from teaching, as well, said Brown County High School Principal Shane Killinger.

He will finish out the school year as social studies and U.S. History teacher.

He notified school administration of his intent earlier in the year, but didn’t want to make an announcement until the end of the basketball season.

“We wanted him to announce earlier so we could announce it at senior night and do something special, but he didn’t want a bunch of fanfare,” Killinger said. “He’s always wanted to make it about the kids.”

Killinger estimated Fleetwood had coached for 40 years, not only in Brown County but at other schools in Indiana and Georgia.

Killinger said the job will be posted immediately so a search committee will have ample time to find a good replacement.
