Roderick D. Smith, 85, Reelsville

Roderick D. Smith, 85, Reelsville, went to be with his Lord  Monday, Feb. 24, 2014. 

He was born March 18, 1928 at Peoga in Johnson County, son of the late Clayton Dewey and Annie [Scudder] Smith.

He married Beverly Jean Barber May 11, 1952; she survives. Roderick and Beverly were married for 61 years. Also surviving are his children, Rebecca Barrickman of Sheridan, Robert (wife, Susan) Smith of Florida, David Smith of Reelsville, and Timothy (wife, Diane) Smith of Kokomo; his sister, Joan (husband, Richard) Malott of Indianapolis; his brother, Steve Smith of Helmsburg; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was a chain puller for Diamond Chain at Indianapolis and retired after 30-plus years of service.  He was a member of Reelsville United Methodist Church and former member of  Bean Blossom Mennonite Church.  He graduated from Union Bible Seminary. He loved music and played and made lap dulcimers. 

Funeral Services were to be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale.  Visitation was to be from noon until the service time Thursday, Feb. 27.  Interment was to be in New Providence Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Lois Cottongim; and his twin brothers, Chester and Lester Smith.
