Harry Arnold Gentry Sr., 85, Morgantown

Harry Arnold Gentry Sr., 85, Morgantown, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Feb. 5, 2014, at his home.

He was born June 22, 1928, in Indianapolis, to the late Cecil and Lena (Tungett) Gentry. Harry attended Indianapolis Public School16 before going on to serve with the United States Navy during World War II and in the Korean War with the United States Army.

After service to his country, Harry married Dorthea M. Lewis Sept. 25, 1954, in Indianapolis. She survives after 59 loving years.

Harry retired in 1993 from Amtrack in Beech Grove as an airbrake carman after 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked for the Little Nashville Opry in Brown County for over 13 years as a custodian. 

He was a member of Morgantown Gospel Lighthouse Church and enjoyed woodworking, bird and squirrel watching and visiting with friends for breakfast at Bernie’s restaurant in Morgantown. 

Harry is survived by his wife; children, Christena Gentry and Mark (Holly) Gentry, both of Morgantown, Sharon Kay (Bruce) Fox of Jasonville, Harry (Wanda) Gentry Jr. of Franklin; brother, Virgil (Pat) Gentry of Florida; six grandchildren, Norman Fox and Raylee Fox, both of Worthington, Joseph Gentry of Franklin, Jeffrey Thomas of Palm Harbor, Fla., Amber Thomas of Martinsville, Rusty Gentry of Indianapolis; and seven great-grandchildren.

Harry was preceded in death by a daughter, Luelenn Marie Gentry, Feb. 28, 1997.

The Rev. Mike Wagner will conduct a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb.15, at Morgantown Gospel Lighthouse Church, 340 Hoosier St., Morgantown. Friends can call from 12:30 p.m. until time of service Saturday, Feb. 15 at the church. Funeral services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
