Winter storm warning; snowfall predictions vary
Updated on: 02.04.14

Another winter storm is coming, the email alerts and weather forecasts say. But how much snow are we talking? It depends on the source.

The Weather Channel's winter storm alert for the Brown County region, in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday, predicts 3 to 8 inches of snow and sleet, with a tenth to a quarter of an inch of ice possible. It's all expected to start this afternoon and last through midday Wednesday.

The National Weather Service forecast for Brown County predicted snow to start after 4 p.m. today, with 1 to 2 inches falling before nightfall. Tonight, it's calling for 4 to 8 more inches of snow to fall, and less than a half an inch early Wednesday morning.

An Accuweather email blast on Monday showed Brown County in the swath of a 1- to 3-inch snowfall through Tuesday night, then 1 to 3 more through Thursday night.

Some schools in Monroe and Owen counties schools called early 2 p.m. dismissals for Tuesday and canceled all evening activities. Brown County Schools had not changed its schedule as of noon Tuesday.

At Brown County IGA Tuesday morning, shoppers were lined up to get their storm essentials.

As of noon Tuesday, only one event Tuesday night had been canceled: The Cordry Sweetwater Building Commission meeting.
