Michael Murphy, 65, Nashville

Michael “Mike” D. Murphy, 65, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, Jan. 16, 2014, at his home in Nashville.

Mike was born March 29, 1948, in Louisville, Ky., to Denzel and Doris (Kryder) Murphy. He was a 1966 graduate of Beech Grove High School. Mike married Carolyn “Sue” (Hamilton) Reddy March 2, 1992, at Brown County State Park in Nashville. She survives after 22 loving years of marriage.

He was employed as the Geographic Information Systems coordinator for the Brown County Surveyor's Office for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he worked for Alcoa and Sheet Metal Models, both in Indianapolis, and served as a Beech Grove police officer for 13 years.

Mike was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and Nashville Masonic Lodge No. 135. He enjoyed boating with his family at Lake Lemon, photography, and was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana University men’s basketball team.

Mike is survived by a daughter, Kelli Murphy of Greenwood; a stepson, Ryan (Kim) Matkins of Beech Grove; and three stepgrandchildren, Toni and Ashley Webb, both of Indianapolis, and Kayla Matkins of Beech Grove.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Yvonne Webb; and a brother, Jay E. Murphy.

The Rev. Darrel Miller will conduct a celebration of life service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends can call from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
