David L. Kemp, 70, Morgantown

David L. Kemp, 70, Morgantown, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, Dec. 21, 2013, at his home after a five-year courageous battle with colon cancer.

David was born in Morgantown Dec. 27, 1942, to the late Riley W. and Mary Jane (Nay) Kemp. He was a 1961 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to serve as a Specialist 4 with Company E of the 738th Maintenance Battalion for the Indiana National Guard. David married Joyce R. Parson Feb. 26, 1967 in Brown County; she lovingly survives after 46 years of marriage.

He retired in 1993 as a thread grinder machinist for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus after 33 years of service. David was a member of the Diesel Workers Union in Columbus, Fellowship Baptist Church in Trafalgar, and a former member of Morgantown Baptist Church. He was also a life-time member of the National Rifle Association. David enjoyed wood working, working in his yard and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband and loyal father who always provided for his family.

David is survived by his wife; sons, David E. (Valerie) Kemp and Charles E. (Patty Johns) Kemp, both of Morgantown; siblings, Patsy (Barry) Williams of Morgantown, Shirley (George) Long of Wasilla, Alaska, and Richard L. Kemp of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews. 

The Rev. Jeff Hopson will conduct a funeral service 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center,  179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown.

Friends can call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with Military Rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards. 

Memorial contributions can be sent in honor of David to Fellowship Baptist Church, “Building Fund” 4743 South 600 West, Trafalgar, IN 46181.
