Velma Belle (Turner) Scrougham, 93, Brown County

Velma Belle (Turner) Scrougham, 93, Brown County native, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.

Velma was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Brown County, to the late Charles and Erschel Turner.  She married Ernest "Buck" Scrougham Nov. 1, 1941 in Franklin; he preceded her in death Feb. 9, 2004, after 63 loving years.

Velma loved being a homemaker, wife and mother. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially working in her flower and vegetable gardens and raising a variety of animals. She was a member of the Brown County Farm Bureau and helped with the Brown County Old Settlers for many years. Velma attended Cottonwood Church in Brown County.

Velma is survived by a daughter, Judith Clupper of Brown County; and her good friend and caregiver, Roger Cline of Morgantown. 

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Scrougham, who passed away in 1988; and a brother, Glen Turner. 

The Rev. Darrel Miller will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown. Friends can call from noon until service time Sunday, Dec. 22 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Weeping Willow Cemetery in Bean Blossom.
