Fred C. Newland, 50, Columbus

Fred C. Newland, 50, Columbus, passed away at 8:54 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, Ky.

Fred was born Aug. 4, 1963, in Lancaster, Ky. He married Kimberly J. Baker July 3, 2004, in Tennessee.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was employed at Bimbo Bakery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and NASCAR, and was active in the local Union No. 132. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his children.

A funeral service was conducted Dec. 12 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, Columbus, with Pastor Larry Duncan officiating. Family and friends called Dec. 11 and 12 before the service at the funeral home. Burial was to be at Christiansburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.

Fred is survived by his wife, Kimberly J. Baker-Newland; children, Travis, Dustin, and Colton Newland; his mother, Christine Hubble Branum; a brother, Walter (Cheryl) Branum; a sister, Crystal (Kenny) King; a stepsister, Rita Brodfuehrer; his father- and mother-in-law, Stan and Paula Kirts, all of Columbus; brothers-in-law, Daniel (Stephanie) Baker and family, and Skyler Kirts and family; and several nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his stepfather, James H. Branum.
