Edith Mackey-Shields, 90, Bloomington
Edith Mackey-Shields, 90, of Bloomington passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Richland-Bean Blossom Health Care Center.

Born March 6, 1923, in Brown County, she was daughter of William Bryan White and Elfie (Day) White. She was later raised by her step-father, L.W. Sciscoe, and her mother. Edith graduated from Southport High School in 1941. In 1946, Edith and her husband, Herman E. Mackey Jr., moved to Bloomington and acquired Varsity Studios at 103 and a half W. Kirkwood Ave. from her father. Edith also worked for Sarkes Tarzian, sold Avon for 35 years and retired from the Indiana University printing plant.

Edith married Floyd Shields in Aug. 1961, who became “Dad” to her two sons. Edith and Floyd vacationed all over the U.S. and loved each other for over 34 years. Floyd preceded her in death in 1995.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Stokes-Jackson.

Edith loved the Lord and all His beautiful creations. She enjoyed planting flowers and decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas.

Edith is survived by her two sons and their wives, Herman E. Mackey Jr. II (Rose), Wilbur N. Mackey (Norma); and a step-daughter, Alice Shields  (husband, Mike). She was also blessed with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Richland-Bean Blossom HCC for their dedication to their residents.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Southside Christian Church, 500 E. Empire Mill Road, Bloomington.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 at the church, with Pastor Craig Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington, is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospice, P.O. Box 1149, Bloomington, IN 47402.
