No-Name Committee tradition needs supporters
Updated on: 10.25.13

Thirty-five years ago, an anonymous group of Brown County residents formed the No-Name Committee to give to local families in need at Christmas. They gathered donations for a Children's Auction and, with the proceeds, bought an outfit and winter clothing for each child. A food basket also was given to each family.

Now, with available time and money strained, the committee is nearly depleted of volunteers.

The No-Name Committee is asking for help to carry on the tradition for the 36th annual Children's Auction fundraiser. A meeting for prospective volunteers is planned at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Brown County Public Library.

In recent years, the number of people signing up to receive aid has increased and auction proceeds have decreased, a No-Namer reported last week. Five years ago, the committee voted to do away with food baskets and instead hand out $25 gift cards to Old Navy for children from birth to age 16, also allowing parents to pick the clothing.

Volunteers will soon start collecting Children's Auction donations from local merchants. Help also will be needed to organize aid forms and hand out gift cards.

The 36th annual Children's Auction will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Out of the Ordinary restaurant. All are welcome to bid on items to support local families in need.

To receive aid, request a form at any Brown County school.
