Hubert “Bob” Summers, 90, Morgantown

Hubert “Bob” Summers, 90, Morgantown, passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday morning, Oct. 15, 2013.

Bob was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Casey County, Ky., to the late William Richard and Vergie Francis (Whethington) Summers. He married Frankie June (Lothery) Summers Nov. 12, 1954 in New Albany. She preceded him in death June 30, 1999, after 45 years. He married Lucy Alma (Byus) Summers Jan. 13, 2000 in Franklin. She survives in Greenwood.

Bob retired as a truck driver from Dohrn Trucking in Indianapolis in 1979.  He was a farmer, raising crop tomatoes which he sold to the Red Gold canning factory in Trafalgar. Bob enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, playing and singing with the Blue Grass Gospel Four group and also playing and singing in church and with friends. 

Bob is survived by three sons, Dayton (Charmaine) Summers of North Clarendon, Vt., James (Renae) Summers of Columbus, and Travis (Lou) Summers of Morgantown; three daughters, Letia (Jack) Mason of Franklin, Betty (Paul) Haney of Springhill, Fla. and Brenda Gater of Sellersburg; two stepsons, Jim (Barbara) Lothery of Sellersburg and Robert (Elizabeth) McLaughlin of Greenwood; two brothers, Martin (Catherine) Summers of Pittsboro and George Summers of Rockford, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eldia Owensby; a son, Richard Allen Summers; a grandson, Greg Mason; a sister, Christine Miller; and a brother, Francis Summers. 

The Rev. Rick Owensby and Sim Brock will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct.19 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends can call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Borden.
