Marion E. “M.E.” Walker, 81, Flat Rock,

Marion E. “M.E.” Walker, 81, Flat Rock, passed away peacefully Thursday morning Oct. 3, 2013 at his residence. By his side was his loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Vivian L. (Riley) Walker, whom he married Sept. 14, 1984 in Blytheville, Ark.

M.E. was born on Oct. 11, 1931 at home on Haggard Road in Brown County  to the late Carl Marion and Opal Marie (Haggard) Walker. He was a 1950 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to serve as an airman first class with the 407th Air Refueling Squadron of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He also was a graduate of the aircraft and engine school of the Air Force. M.E. was proud to be a veteran and to have been a service technician for the B-29 bomber airplanes during the conflict. 

M.E. retired in 1975 as a service and sales representative for the Chevrolet Motor Division after 22 years of service. He also was a retired farmer, farming in southern Johnson County for over 29 years. M.E. attended Old Union United Church of Christ in Edinburgh and was a lifetime member of the Shelbyville VFW Post 2695. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling with his wife in their camper trailer and horseback riding. M.E. was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana University men’s basketball and NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife; children, Michael E. (Kellie) Bowers of Indianapolis, Melessa E. Walker of Ft. Wayne, Jeffery Michael Deiwert of Flat Rock and Richard (Dawn) Deiwert Jr. of Hope; siblings, Donald L. Walker of Hudson, Fla., Judith C. Miller of Whiteland and Curtis G. Walker of Trafalgar. M.E. will be remembered by his five grandchildren, Rick and Matt Deiwert, Kristal Baker, Jessica and Dana Bowers; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The Rev. J. Kirby Rupp will conduct a funeral service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. 

Friends can call from 2 p.m. until time of service Saturday, Oct. 5 at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with Military Graveside Rites.  

Memorial contributions can be sent in honor of M.E. to the Shelby County Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
