Donald L. Blinzinger, 67, Nashville

Donald L. Blinzinger, 67, Nashville, passed away peacefully at his residence Thursday afternoon, Sept. 19, 2013, after a strong and courageous battle with ALS. By his side was his loving and devoted wife, C. Mariea (Fox) Blinzinger. Don was a former resident of Indianapolis.

He was born on April 24, 1946, in Tell City to James Edward and Edith Ann (Huff) Blinzinger. Don was a 1964 graduate of Tell City High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in speech from Wabash College. He later received his master's degree from Florida State University.

Don retired in 2010 as senior vice president for Bose Public Affairs Group in Indianapolis after 14 years of service. Prior to that, he was the senior vice president of Legal & Regulatory Affairs at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Care Center. Don had a very successful and rewarding career. He was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Robert D. Orr in 1986, served as the chief of staff to House Republican Leader Brian C. Bosma and the House Republican Caucus from 2002-2003, and served as the first male board member on the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization — Indiana affiliate.

Former government board positions include commissioner of the Indiana State Department of Welfare, Indiana Health Facilities Council, Indiana Hospital Licensing Council, Hospital Prospective Payment Commission, Calumet Township Control Board and Calumet Township Management Committee. He was a member of the Columbia Club in Indianapolis, Governmental Affairs Society of Indiana and the Holcomb Estates Owners’ Association.

Don’s hobbies included visiting wineries with his wife, dancing, and walking his beautiful property in Brown County. He enjoyed his time sitting on his front porch and reading about history and politics.

Don is survived by his wife; children, Kelly Grant of Bloomington, Polly (Brian) Fiddler of Fishers, Christopher (Kendra) Blinzinger of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Jon (Kiera) Blinzinger of Layton, Utah, and Aaron (Heather) Blinzinger of Provo, Utah. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Eric Goodwin of Franklin and Candace Fox of Tulsa, Okla.; brother, Lynn (Dorothy) Blinzinger of Tell City; 24 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Family friend, Jim Haas, conducted a private funeral service Sept. 23 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown. Burial followed at Goshen Cemetery in Brown County.

Memorial contributions can be sent in honor of Don to the ALS Association of Indiana, 6525 E. 82nd St., Suite 115, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
