Cladie 'Bill' Bailey, 71, Nashville

Cladie A. "Bill" Bailey, 71, Nashville, passed from this life at 4:35 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Brown County Health & Living Community.

Mr. Bailey was a machine repairman at Cummins Engine Company, retiring in 1996 after 32 years of service. After his retirement, he worked at NAPA Auto Parts in Nashville.

Mr. Bailey was a faithful member and former trustee of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Bean Blossom and also was a member of the Diesel Workers Union.

He had a passion for NASCAR and sprint car racing and had worked on sprint cars and also built a model sprint car. Mr. Bailey was an avid golfer and enjoyed IU basketball and St. Louis Cardinal baseball.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 5802 N. Old Settlers Road, Bean Blossom, with Pastor Henry Berg officiating. Family and friends can call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 4205 W. Jonathan Moore Pike in Columbus, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church or the Bloomington Hospital Foundation for hospice services.

Born in Bedford Aug. 31, 1942, Mr. Bailey was the son of Cladie Alford and Mary Katherine Hobson Bailey. He married Phyllis J. Meier Bush April 1, 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; his mother, Mary Katherine Mathews of Bedford; children, Cladie Alyn (Bobbie) Bailey Jr. of Crawfordville, Fla., Traci (Donny) Prince of Bedford, Sherri (Tim) Brown of Nashville and Andrew (Christy) Bailey of Acworth, Ga.; stepdaughters, Gretchen (Craig) Turner of Columbus, Melinda Epler of Greenwood and Melissa (Lee) Parker of Nashville; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and brothers, Mark Mathews and Dan (Kristy) Mathews, both of Bedford.

Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his father, Cladie Alford Bailey; and his stepfather, Forest Mathews.
