Mary Ann Stuart, 84, Hilton Head, S.C.

Mary Ann Stuart, 84, of Hilton Head, S.C., passed away Aug. 7, 2013. She was born Sept. 25, 1928, in Hammond. Mary Ann was the daughter of Michael and Barbara Matovina.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Peter G. Stuart; her second husband, Bill Hornett; and her brother, Michael Matovina.

She is survived by her children, Mary Beth Gadus (Mike), Lynn Alexander (Dale), Bruce Stuart, Grant Stuart (Kristy) and Bill Stuart (Peggi); 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother; and four sisters.

Pete and Mary Ann founded their family business together in 1973 in Greencastle and later expanded to eight stores in Indianapolis, Nashville and  Hilton Head. She immensely enjoyed playing bridge and golf with her friends. She baked cookies for just about everyone she came into contact with and was affectionately known as the “Cookie Lady.”

Visitation will be at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Nashville at 10 a.m., Monday Sept. 9. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m., with burial afterward at Greenlawn Cemetery. A lunch reception will follow.

Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
