Iva (Powell) Smith, 72, Mooresville

Iva M. (Powell) Smith, 72, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 20, 2013, at her home in Mooresville. She was a former resident of Brown County.

Iva was born in Hodgesville, Ala., Nov. 15, 1940, to her parents, the late Shelley and Gearldyne (Elmore) Powell. She married Forrest M. Smith July 25, 1990, in Danville. He preceded her in death Sept. 19, 2007, after 17 loving years of marriage.

Iva is survived by two daughters, Bobbie (Rex) Ivy of Mooresville and Victoria (Larry) Sherrill of Brown County; three sons, Steven (Brenda) Kirschbaum of Franklin and Ronald Kirschbaum and Jacob D. Smith, both of Mooresville. She will be remembered by her siblings, Nina Icenogle and Debbie Mullins, both of Dothan, Ala., and Jimmy Lanier of Mooresville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Iva was preceded in death by a son, Kirt Kirschbaum.

She was a homemaker and was retired from the sewing department of General Motors in Indianapolis. Iva enjoyed working crossword and word search puzzles, canning and sewing.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends can call from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, Ala.
