Dennis E. Purkhiser, 69, Morgantown

Dennis E. Purkhiser, 69, of Morgantown, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013.

He was born April 24, 1944 in Beech Grove to George E. and Wilma J. (Sparks) Purkhiser. Dennis was an electrician at Indianapolis Power & Light for 15 years, retiring in 1981. He was an avid mushroom hunter, fisherman and was a faithful member of the Purple Martin Association. He adored his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dennis married the love of his life, the former Linda Lacefield, Aug. 22, 1962, in Ohio County, Ky.

His wife survives; along with their children, Crystal Painter, Beth (Jim) Hamm, Mitch (Kim) Purkhiser and Rachel (Kevin) Pool; brothers, Jerry (Joyce) and Perry Purkhiser; sisters, Judy (Phil) Sims and Bonnie (Lewis) Jones; half brother, Russell Wetzel; stepbrothers, George (Diane) Wetzel, Charles Wetzel, and Devon Wetzel; stepsisters, Joanne Isom and Treva Wetzel; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Noah Purkhiser; sister, Carolyn Stickles; and half brother, Bob Wetzel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Morgantown. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
