Lena “Jean” (Logsdon) Chitwood, 76, Nashville

Lena “Jean” (Logsdon) Chitwood, 76, of Nashville, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, July 25, 2013, at Brown County Health & Living Community. She was a former resident of Morgantown.

Jean was born in Brown County Aug. 11, 1936, to the late Ivy and Dorothy (Sweetwood) Logsdon Sr. She was a 1954 graduate of Helmsburg High School. Jean married Allen E. Chitwood Dec. 23, 1961, in Morgantown. He preceded her in death Jan. 16, 2008, after 46 loving years of marriage.

Jean worked at RCA in Indianapolis, Waycross Camp & Conference Center in Brown County and in various gift shops in downtown Nashville. She enjoyed the contact and interaction with the tourists who passed through Nashville and, whether it was making fudge and caramel apples at Schwab’s Fudge Shop, or selling gift and souvenir items at Townhouse Gifts, this Brown County girl always left people with a smile.

Jean loved spending time with family and friends, especially on the sandy beaches of Florida during her winter there. She would never pass up a good card game and enjoyed quilting, mushroom hunting, and singing in the church choir. She also looked forward to the annual “Old Settlers” gatherings, where she would catch up with what was going on in the lives of her dear friends. Over the years she attended Cottonwood Christian Church and Bear Creek Church, both of Brown County.

Jean is survived by her three daughters, Sandra Chitwood-Moore of North Vernon, Alana (Craig) Porritt and Marylin Chitwood, both of Nashville; five grandchildren, Bronson Taylor, Trever Chitwood, Shyla Moore, Sarah Porritt and Josh Barger; and two great-grandchildren, Dawson and Stetson Taylor. She will be remembered by her three sisters, Marylin Jordan of Avon, Jenny Wheatley and Dorothy Sipes, both of Nashville; and a brother, Ivy “Jack” (Louise) Logsdon of Greenwood. She will be remembered by her five grandchildren

Jean was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Gray and Elsie Robinson; and a brother, Edward Logsdon.

A celebration of life service will be conducted Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Meredith–Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends can call from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be sent in honor of Jean to Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th Street, Columbus, IN 47201.

Expression of caring and kindness can be made to the Chitwood family at meredith-clark.com.
