Roger K. Sanders, 71, Morgantown

Roger K. Sanders, age 71 passed away Thursday morning, July 25, 2013 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a lifelong resident of Morgantown.

Roger was born Dec. 4, 1941, in Morgantown to the late Maurice and Doris (Hall) Sanders. He was a 1960 graduate of Morgantown High School and worked his entire life as a farmer. He worked farms in Owen, Johnson and Morgan counties, as well as his own family farm, where he raised cattle, hogs and crops. He cherished the time spent working with his mother in their vegetable garden.

Roger was known for his story telling and laughter. He loved visiting with friends and family and had an knack for showing up at their homes right at dinner time for a good, home-cooked meal. He traveled around the county looking at other’s crops and giving his opinion on how they were doing. Roger enjoyed riding horses and mushroom hunting.

Roger was a member of Morgantown Masonic Lodge 358 and the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, Morgan County Beef & Dairy Association, and Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Trafalgar.

Having no children of his own, Roger enjoyed the closeness of his good friends, Bobby Clay of Oklahoma, Brad Hamilton of Martinsville, and Janet and Kenny Haste of Trafalgar. He is survived by several cousins; and an aunt, Louise Cooper of Greenwood.

The Rev. Cleon Wright will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 31 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends can call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30 at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted by the Morgantown Masonic Lodge at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
