Melvina L. (Day) Smith, 81, Martinsville

Melvina L. (Day) Smith, 81, passed away Sunday morning, July 7, 2013, at Grandview Health & Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville. She was a resident of Martinsville and a former resident of Corydon.
Melvina was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Seymour to Luther V. and Helen (Blankenship) Day. She married William H. Smith April 18, 1952, in Sandborn. He preceded her in death May 14, 1986, after 34 loving years of marriage.
Melvina was a dedicated mother, grandmother and wife who enjoyed flower gardening; reading Harlequin romance novels; watching old western movies; cooking and baking; and traveling with her husband, who was an over-the-road driver. Melvina was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Croix.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Lindsey of Hodgenville, Ky., and Tammy Costin of Salem; and three sons, Anthony (Melanie) Smith of Martinsville, William (Kim) Smith of California and James Edward Smith of Stuttgart, Alaska. Melvina will be remembered by her brother, Lowell Keith “Sunny” Day of Hardinsburg; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Smith; two sisters, Margaret Rose Day and Mary Rolen; two brothers, Marvin C. and Luther V. Day Jr.; and a grandson, Matthew R. Smith.
The Rev. Mike Day will conduct a funeral service at 3 p.m. Monday, July 15 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends can call from 2 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
