Injunction issued against Indiana Bike Week
Updated on: 06.21.13

Brown Circuit Court Judge Judith Stewart found that planned uses of the property next to the Bill Monroe Music Park during Indiana Bike Week are in violation of local zoning laws.

By court order, event promoter and Brown County resident Michael Farabaugh cannot allow camping or parking on the 75 acres of land he owns through Freedom Park, LLC. Although those activities had occurred regularly for more than 30 years, they are not permitted under current zoning laws.

Judge Stewart noted that the injunction brought forth by the Brown County Board of Zoning Appeals does not prohibit the event on the Bill Monroe property or stop any allowable activities on Freedom Park’s land.

“This injunction does not in any way prohibit the Indiana Bike Week from proceeding at Bill Monroe, but does enjoin use of the Farabaugh property for any use not permitted under the zoning ordinance,” the judge wrote.

In testimony given during a court hearing on Friday, Farabaugh said reducing the event to the confines of the Bill Monroe property would be catastrophic. He estimated 6,000 people would attend the event, which is scheduled for June 24 to June 30. He estimated 500 to 1,000 would camp on the property in question. He added that Bill Monroe did not have sufficient camping space to handle the number of people expected.
