Openings remain in 'playwrites camp'
Updated on: 06.04.13

A few openings remain in Brown County Literacy’s Playwrites Camp scheduled for June 10-21. Students entering the seventh and eighth grades are encouraged to enroll by calling the Literacy Coalition office at 988-6960 before Friday, June 7.  Preference will be given to Brown County residents.

There is no cost for the two-week workshop.

Produced by the Brown County Literacy Coalition and funded by grants, the program is developed and delivered by Julie Powers, principal with Crown Performance Studio and Golden Ticket Productions, along with her colleagues, Russell Moss and Brad Zumwalt. Powers holds a master's of fine arts degree in acting from Minnesota State University and a bachelor's degree in musical theatre from Butler University.

Brown County Literacy volunteers will be on hand to assist campers throughout the program.

The first week of camp will be conducted at the Brown County Public Library and include activities that introduce the playwriting process. During the second week, campers will take their plays to the Brown County Playhouse, where they will adapt them for the stage for live performances in front of family, friends and the public on Friday, June 21. Plays will be compiled and published by the Brown County Literacy Coalition for distribution.

For more information, or to enroll in this program, call the Brown County Literacy Coalition at 988-6960 or Marcia DeBock at (812) 345-2790.
