Phyllis J. (Stika) Zajicek, 76, Nashville

Phyllis J. (Stika) Zajicek, 76, Nashville, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, May 25, 2013 at Brown County Health & Living Community. By her side was her devoted husband of 52 years, George Zajicek, and their daughter, Heidi.

George and Phyllis were married on June 11, 1960, in Berwyn, Ill. She is survived by daughter, Heidi (husband, Chad) Montgomery of Martinsville; and two grandchildren, Madelyn and Ryan Cox.

Phyllis was born on May 19, 1937, in Chicago, to the late William and Gladys (Tyls) Stika. She was a 1955 graduate of Morton High School in Cicero, Ill., and went on to attend Pilchuk Glass School in Seattle and studied glass with Francis Higgins in Illinois. Phyllis and her husband were the owners of Tippers Willow Art Glass Studio, located in their home on Lanam Ridge Road. Since the 1970s, they have been well-known glass artists using a technique called “fused glass.” Together they created original bowls, vases, panels, lamps, jewelry and art pieces in their studio. Phyllis and her husband enjoyed traveling in the United States and in Europe, sharing their technique with others. Prior to moving to Nashville in 1988, they had a studio in Chicago.

Phyllis was a people person who never meet a stranger and was always there for someone in need. She was best friends with her daughter and cherished the time spent with her and her friends. Phyllis was known for her great cooking and also enjoyed raising kittens from the local shelter.

A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be conducted at a future date. In honor of Phyllis, her family requests that memorial contributions be made to Mother’s Cupboard, P.O. Box 825, Nashville, IN 47448. Funeral services have been entrusted to Meredith—Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.

Expressions of caring and kindness can be made to the Zajicek family at www.meredith-clark.com.
