Ernest 'Ernie' Loop, 65, Morgantown

Ernest H. “Ernie” Loop, 65, passed away all too suddenly on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, 2013. He was a lifelong resident of Morgantown.

Ernie was born in Morgantown Dec. 1, 1947, to Lewis N. and Wilma E. (Baute) Loop. He was a 1966 graduate of Morgantown High School. After high school, he went on to serve as a Specialist Four with the United States Army. Ernie was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service and a Purple Heart Medal for his service during the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he married Martha A. “Marty” Fulford July 23, 1976, in Morgantown. She lovingly survives after 36 years of marriage.

Ernie is also survived by his daughter, Cori J. (Dan) Downen of Greenwood; and two grandsons, Jonah Zachary Downen and Blake Thomas Downen both of Greenwood. He will be remembered by his brother, Gary Loop of Columbus.

Ernie retired in 2005 as a forklift operator for Reliance Electric Company in Columbus after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Martinsville American Legion. Ernie cherished the time spent with his two grandsons. He enjoyed gardening, working outdoors and woodworking. Ernie was a fan of game shows, with "Wheel of Fortune" as his favorite. He also enjoyed listening to country music.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 7 p.m. Friday, May 24 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends can call from 4 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Military rites will be presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars honor guards.

In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association, 115 W. Washington St., Suite 1180 South, Indianapolis, IN 46204, in honor of Ernie.

Condolences can be sent to the Loop family through www.meredith-clark.com.
