Edith M. “Ede” (Hamblin) Owens, 71, Princes Lakes

Edith M. “Ede” (Hamblin) Owens, 71, of Princes Lakes, passed away Tuesday morning, April 2, 2013, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Ede was born on Sept. 10, 1941 in Indianapolis to the late Robert P. and Margaret M. (Bailey) Hamblin. She was a 1959 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Indianapolis. Ede married CSM (Ret.) Eddie F. "Ed" Owens on March 19, 1977 in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2011, after 34 loving years.

Ede was a devoted military wife and worked for the state of Indiana in military maintenance at Camp Atterbury from 1988 to 2005. Ede and her husband had a great love for their country and were big supporters of the men and women of the United States Army who help defend it. Ede enjoyed working crossword puzzles, gardening and visiting gambling boats. She was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the Green Bay Packers.

Ede is survived by her children, Lynn A. (Nick) Simms and Lorri M. McCall, both of Nineveh, LeRoy A. (Rachel) Shelley of Smyrna, Ga., Brian “Scooter” Shelley of Nineveh; and a step daughter, Shawna (Brent) Ferguson of Noblesville. She will be remembered by her nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Hamblin of Indianapolis and Rhoda Hamblin of Shirley.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Carole Cahill, Donald and Robert Hamblin; and a brother-in-law, James Cahill.

The family will receive friends at Meredith–Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 4. The Rev. Gary Pitcock will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5 at the funeral home, with burial following at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.

Memorial contributions can be sent in honor of Ede to Fellowship Baptist Church, 3851 E. New York St., Indianapolis, IN 46201 or Johnson Memorial Hospital Cancer Care Center, 1125 W. Jefferson St., Franklin, IN 46131.
