Brown County Water Utility Wellhead Protection Program

NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNERS, LEASE HOLDERS AND OWNERS OF MINERAL RIGHTS LOCATED WITHIN

BROWN COUNTY WATER UTILITY WELLHEAD PROTECTION AREA

You are hereby notified that you own property, are a lease holder, or own mineral rights within a Wellhead Protection Area as required by Indiana Statute 327 IAC 8-4.1-Wellhead Protection.  Brown County Water Utility (BCWU) is required by this rule to develop and implement a Wellhead Protection Program in order to sustain drinking water quality in the ground waters that supply public water to the Brown County Water Utility Membership.  This program is mandated by the 1986 amendments to the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, Title II, Section 205, Subsection 1428.  BCWU’s Wellhead Protection Plan was approved in 2002 and is currently being implemented.  BCWU operates seven (7) separate wells located in the area bounded by on the north by County Road 450 South, Lick Creek Road on the east, Mahalasville Road on the south, and Whetstine Road on the west.  As a property owner, lease holder, or owner of mineral rights you may be affected by BCWU’s Wellhead Protection Plan.  Please contact the BCWU office for a copy of the map showing the Wellhead Protection Area.  Anyone wishing to view the BCWU Wellhead Protection Plan, please contact:  Brown County Water Utility, 5130 North State Road 135, Morgantown, IN, 46160, (812) 988-6611.
