School board chooses general fund deficit solution
Updated on: 03.14.13

A 5-0 vote from the Brown County Schools Board of Trustees has determined that the corporation will move forward with a plan to convert Nashville Elementary School to a fifth- and sixth- grade intermediate school, and move Nashville's K-4 students to the three outlying elementaries.
The move is designed to help the corporation avoid an annual General Fund deficit of $1 million by eliminating 14-16 teaching positions over time.
The board has been discussing the General Fund deficit issue since early last fall, and began discussing specific solutions during its Jan. 30 board retreat.
Over the course of the several meetings since, parents, teachers and administrators have weighed in with their thoughts, concerns and suggestions regarding potential fixes.
Officials will now begin the planning process for how to implement the change, which is slated to take place before school begins this August.
