Stephen B. Baer, 87, Bloomington
Stephen B. Baer, 87, of Bloomington, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013.
 
Born Oct. 7, 1925, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was son of Sigmond and Virginia (Wersel) Baer.
Steve was a graduate of Withrow High School in Cincinnati, class of 1943, and served in an Army field hospital in China during WWII. He drove into China on the Burma Road and flew out "over the hump"- the Himalayas. After the war he graduated from the University of Cincinnati and Washington University (St. Louis) School of Dentistry. He had a dental practice in Hyde Park, Cincinnati for 25 years. He volunteered as a dentist at the Cincinnati Childrens Home.
In 1975 he moved to Nashville and opened Green Gables gift shop. After 12 years he retired to Bloomington, where he volunteered for the Bloomington Historical Society. His interests in retirement were his extensive flower gardens and genealogical research.
 
He is survived by sons, Matthew Baer (Jan) of Morgantown, Andrew Baer (Gail) of Middlebury; and grandson, Drew Baer (Holly) of Nashville.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a twin sister, Nancy Strubbe of Cincinnati.
 
At Steve's request there will be no memorial service. Memorial contributions can be made to a charitable organization of the donor's choice.
