Harriett Elizabeth “Betty” Ranard, 81, Winter Haven, Fla., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 6, 2013.
Betty was born July 18,1931 to James W. and Josephine C. Riddle in Bloomington and was a 1949 graduate of Spencer High School. In June of 1949, she married Harvey E. Ranard in Spencer. She and her husband were longtime residents of Owen County, until 1985, when they moved to Bloomington. She was employed at Otis Elevator in Bloomington and retired from there as a specifier in 1992 after 26 years. She loved life and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, camping, gardening and visiting coastal beaches.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Harvey; her parents; three brothers, Homer, Robert and Vernon Riddle; and sister, Edna Dayhuff.
Betty is survived and will be sadly missed by her three children, Harvey (Ed) Ranard, Jr. (Barbara) of Morgantown, Vicki Frazo (James) of Lake Wales, Fla., and Chris Ranard of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Amy Blanton (Tim) of Hinesville, Ga., Lori Haggard (Mike) of Nashville, Ryan Ranard and Casandra Ranard, both of Bloomington; two step-grandchildren, Julie and Terresa Frazo of Bedford; five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Gabe, and Joanna Rumsey of Nashville, Timothy Woodard of Statesboro, Ga., and Daniel Blanton of Hinesville, Ga.; her close and caring companion of recent years, Mr. Chester Maners of Solsberry; several nieces, nephews and friends.
She will forever be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother, a beautiful and caring person and dear friend to many, as well as a woman of hugs, wit and great love, with a special, heartfelt, tender love toward her Savior. Her battle with Parkinson’s and blindness in her last few years was difficult, but throughout she retained her dignity and smile.
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Day Funeral Home, in Bloomington, with Rev. Lee Snider officiating. Burial took place at Gross Cemetery on Whitehall Pike. Friends called at the funeral home Monday, Feb. 11 and before the service on Tuesday.
Donations can be made to Parkinson’s Disease Research Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
