Mary Christine (Van Devanter) Porcheddu, 87, of Champaign, Ill., passed away 8:40 a.m. Sunday March 3, 2013 at Illini Heritage Nursing Home in Champaign, Ill.

She was born on March 4, 1925 in Veedersburg, daughter of Grace and Karl Van Devanter. She had three sisters, Faith Seeger, Juliet Dundore and Virginia Carter. Her parents; 3 sisters; and a son, Karl Joseph Porcheddu preceded her in death. Christine received a degree from Indiana University and she was a big IU fan. Christine raised her family in Danville, Ill., and later moved to Nashville where she was a member of the Brown County Art Gallery, exhibiting oil paintings in the Hoosier Salon and Indiana Heritage Art Exhibits. She later moved to Fort Myers, Fla., and painted there until she became ill. She lived at Illini Heritage Nursing home in Champaign until her death.

Christine leaves behind a daughter, Julie Porcheddu of Urbana; and a son, Fred Porcheddu of Granville Ohio; a niece, Cynthia Elmquist of Minnesota; a nephew, Van Carter of South Dakota; and many dear friends.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. (EST) Wednesday March 6, at Dickerson Funeral Home, 303 N. Main St., Veedersburg, with Chaplin Tim Haworth officiating. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. (EST) Wednesday and continue until the time of service. Burial will be at Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Champaign County Humane Society in her name.
