Alvin E. Black, 49, of Brown County, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at his home.
Born in Columbus Oct. 16, 1963, Alvin was son of Joseph F. and Mary K. Ferguson Black. Alvin owned and operated Alvin's Hair Salon in Nashville where he worked for 30 years. An animal lover, Alvin liked to spend time with family and friends and going to flea markets and auctions. He had a great sense of humor.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Brown County Humane Society to help take care of the animals he loved so much.

Black and stepmother, Cheryl "Sherry" Denise Black, both of Morgantown; his long-time partner, Edward Schwering of Brown County; his mother-in-law, Barbara Schwering of Hope; step-son, Nicholas Gastil of Nashville; grandson, Ashton Gastil of Nashville; sisters, Kathy (Billie) Stringer and Patty Hatchet, both of Nashville, Debbie Burton of Columbus, Velva (Kenny) Cheek of Nashville and Tammy (Brian) Shaw of Hope; nephews, Billy (Kelly) Watkins of Columbus, Ernie (Andrea) Stringer of Nashville, Joey (Jamie) Creamer of Greensburg, Doug (Ashley) Smith of Shelbyville, Joshua (Crystal) Smith of Columbus, Michael (Stacey) Peaslee and Scott (Jordan) Cheek, both of Nashville, and Evan Shaw of Hope; nieces, Mary Cheek (Angie Allison) of Nashville and Erin Shaw of Hope; 12 great-nephews; five great-nieces; and several aunts, uncles and beloved friends.
Alvin was preceded in death by his loving mother, Mary K. Black; brother-in-law, Mike Burton; niece, Sherri Stringer; grandparents, John and Martha Ferguson and Herod and Agnes Black.
