Helen L. Hamblen, 89, Columbus

Helen L. Hamblen, 89, Columbus, went to be with the Lord and to rejoin her beloved husband at 2:05 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born in Tell City Oct. 1, 1923, Mrs. Hamblen was daughter of John and Leona Reed Marshall. She married Plessie T. Hamblen Nov. 28, 1942. He preceded her in death Aug. 24, 1997. Together they built a Christian home in which to raise their children. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pleasant Christian Union Church.

She is survived by her children, Jimmy (Jane) Hamblen of North Vernon, Tom (Betty) Hamblen of Waterford, Mich., and Janice (Lloyd) Bruner of Columbus; sisters, Pauline Hamblen and Hazel Setser, both of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hamblen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Dennis and John Marshall; a sister, Linda Jessee; and a granddaughter, Sandra Kay Rhodes.

The funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Kevin Metz officiating. Family and friends called Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Wednesday before the service. Burial took place at Mount Zion Cemetery in Brown County.

Memorial contributions can be made to Mount Pleasant Christian Union Church, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Mount Zion Cemetery Association.
