Michael D. Woods, 54, Martinsville

 

Michael D. Woods, 54, Martinsville, passed away Monday evening, Feb. 4, 2013, after a six-month courageous battle at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis.

Michael was born on Nov. 20, 1958 in Franklin to Robert Dale and Mary Jane (Hamilton) Woods. He was a 1977 graduate of Indian Creek High School and went on to earn a degree in diesel mechanics from Lincoln Technical Institute in 1983. He married Teresa L. (Emery) Woods on July 13, 1979 in Martinsville. She survives after 33 loving years. Michael was a spirited man, deeply loved by his family and wore his heart on his sleeve.

Michael is survived by his father, Robert D. Woods of Martinsville; his wife; and children, Michelle L. (Ryan) Dyer and Michael E. Woods, both of Martinsville. He will be remembered by his sister, Roberta Sue (Ted) Saras of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; a brother, James Matthew (Shelly) Woods of Martinsville; step-father, Joe Stover of Morgantown; mother in law, Loretta Emery of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Zachary D. and Elijah M. Dyer and Hayden Michael Woods, all of Martinsville.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Woods.

He worked as a concrete driller for several companies in Indianapolis and was a member of the Laborers Union Local 120 in Indianapolis. Prior to that, he worked as a truck driver for Keller Trucking in Morgan County. He was known as the “chef of the house” and was referred to as the “pie man” for his ability to cook and bake. Michael enjoyed visiting amusement parks, boating, and relaxing on the beach with his family. He also enjoyed listening to loud music, mowing, visiting with neighbors, mushroom hunting, bird watching and tending to the family pool. 

Family friend, Mr. Kyle Hunter will conduct a funeral service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Meredith–Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown.

Friends can call from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8 at the funeral home and one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
