Robert A. Schiffer, 61, of Scipio, passed from this life at 8:03 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at Kindred Hospital South in Greenwood.

Mr. Schiffer was a U.S. Navy veteran; he served two tours in Vietnam and two years in Hawaii. Robert was a transportation specialist for Vitran Express in Indianapolis. He attended Garden City Church of Christ and his hobbies included boating and horses.

The funeral service was conducted Monday, Feb. 4, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Ron Voss officiating. Family and friends called before the service Monday. Full military honors were presented by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard at the funeral home. In keeping with Mr. Schiffer's wishes, cremation followed the service.

Born in Koeln, Germany Jan. 3, 1952, Robert was son of Hilarius Lehmann and Maria Schiffer. He married Ilse D. Boehnisch May 26, 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Ilse; children, Jonathan (Lynn) Bringle of Nashville, Collin Stoddard of Columbus, Angie (Glen) Amis of North Vernon, and Robby (Fawnda) Fields of Columbus; his mother, Maria Steward of Arkansas; grandchildren, Cody Fields of Scipio, Blake and Haley Fields, both of Columbus, and Taylor, Haley and Brayton Bringle, all of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Jolie, Alayina and A'Lyvia; and many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Schiffer was preceded in death by his father; and foster parents, Roy and June Goodwin.
