Harold C. Moore, 89, went to be with the Lord after passing in his home Dec. 29, 2012. He was born Nov. 29, 1923, on Thanksgiving Day. Born to Norris H. Moore and Lucille Mae Corman-Moore in Stinesville. Moved to Buffalo, N.Y., in January 1927. Father was stone mill supervisor. Wonderful young years with a mother who loved and cared for her children. Brother, Loren E. Moore was born there May 13, 1928. Moved to Ellettsville, in October 1932. Attended third grade there then moved near Stinesville, in 1934. Graduated from fifth grade in 1937. Attended and graduated from Bloomington High School in May 1941.
Married Lilly Irene Moore May 30, 1942, in parsonage of Ellettsville Baptist Church, where he was baptized in 1933. Attended Indiana University in 1942-1943. Enlisted into US Army December 1943.
Our first daughter, Donna Louise, born in March 1943, spent 1943 and 1944 in US Army camps. Transferred overseas to Germany in 1945 and performed duty as infantry rifleman in combat — 76th infantry division. Returned to USA and discharged in November 1945. Entered Butler University and graduated in August 1947. Our second daughter, Lynne Marie, was born Nov. 8, 1947. Moved to Franklin, in 1950 with my wife and children and parents. We started our first restaurant there. Our first son, Curtis, was born Nov. 29, 1952. Our second son, Kentan, was born in May 1959.
For the next 30 years, we operated restaurants in Madison, Indianapolis, Columbus, and Nashville. I was elected president of Indiana Restaurant Association in 1972. We retired in 1992 and spent the next 10 years in Florida and at our home near Columbus where we moved in 1964. My dear wife and I celebrated our 60th anniversary May 30, 2002. Lord only knows when our life together will end. The Lord has blessed me throughout my life. For this I thank Him. Freedom from want and fear, good health, these are things which only the Lord can give.
— Harold Moore Feb. 6, 2003.
