Esther Burris Minto, 100, Nashville

Esther Burris Minto, 100, passed away on Jan. 11, 2013, at Brown County Health and Living Community in Nashville.

She was born in Linton, on June 22, 1912.  Her parents were the late James and Lessie (Terhune) Beckwith. Also preceding her in death were her husbands, Tony Burris in 1969 and Tom Minto in 1993; sons, Calvin and Paul Burris; granddaughter, Lisa York; stepdaughter, Doris Fiedler; and stepsons, Paul and Tommy Minto.

Before moving to be near her daughter in Nashville, she was a longtime resident of Perry County. Esther will be remembered as a person of community service, having worked actively with 4-H programs in the 1950s and as a teacher to hundreds of students of music. She touched many lives with her appreciation of music, having played the organ and piano for weddings and funerals, in addition to her devotion to her church family at First United Methodist Church.

Esther was dedicated, resourceful, strong and unfailing in her belief. She spent her last years finding enjoyment in simple things, such as her cat napping on her lap, watching birds out her window and visiting with family and friends. She felt especially blessed to have received so many cards of well wishes for her 100th birthday.

Surviving is her daughter, Coretta York; stepson, Chris Minto; grandchildren, Doug and Eric Burris, Diana Kreisle, Chris Burris, Shaun York and Toni Booth, Louann Backer, Jeff, Tracy, Todd, Paula and Pam Minto, Jim Fiedler and Peggy Jones; eighteen great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Evansville, at 11 am. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church, Hospice of Columbus, Indiana or Brown County Health and Living Community’s activity fund.

Messages of condolence can be left at www.huberfuneralhome.net.
