Rance W. Poehler, 72, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 2013, at his home in Morgantown.

He was born in Indianapolis on Sept. 3, 1940 to the late Re Fred Charles and Lelia Francis (Hillard) Poehler. Rance married his loving wife of 53 years, Mary “Mare” L. (Agan) Poehler on Nov. 26, 1960, in Indianapolis; she survives.

Rance was a 1958 graduate of Harry E. Wood High School in Indianapolis and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business in 1972 from the University of Indianapolis while working full time to support his family. He retired from Eli Lilly & Company in Indianapolis as a distribution supervisor after 35 years service. He received his Eagle Scout badge of honor.

Rance’s number one priority was his family. He was a great father, husband, grandfather and son (to both his mother and step parents). He lived by high moral standards and taught great values to his children and those who knew him. He was a real outdoorsman and passed these values to all those around him, whether family, friends, or neighbors. He would help anyone in need and never put himself first. 

He is survived by his wife; one son, Rance (wife, Holly) Poehler of McKinney, Texas; one sister, Sharon Byers of Pensacola, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Mary Chaney, Rance B., Nicole, and Zachary Poehler.

Rance was preceded in death by two children, Christine and Kent Poehler; and two brothers, Re and Arthur Poehler.

A celebration of Rance’s life will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends can call from 4 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
