William E. Snyder, 83, Columbus

William E. Snyder, 83, Columbus, died at 12:44 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at his home.

Born in Taylorsville on April 6, 1929, Mr. Snyder was son of John F. and Flossie B. Oberlies Snyder. He married Phyllis J. Wilber on Oct. 23, 1949.

Survivors include his wife; children, Michael A. Turpin of Brown County, Debbie L. (Ron) Brock of Taylorsville, Terry B. Snyder of Brown County and Anita M. (Bob) Brown of Columbus; sister, Betty Roupp of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Misty Thomas, Jeff and Jared (Megan) Brock, Brian (Sherry) and Tricia Snyder, Heather (Shane) Cowan and Kelli (Levi) Miller; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents;and a brother, Harold Snyder.

Mr. Snyder retired from the Army National Guard in 1991 as chief warrant officer (CW4), after 43 years of service. He was a former basketball coach for several elementary schools, AAU, PAAL and Boomers.

The funeral was conducted Saturday Jan. 5 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, Columbus, with the Rev. Wes Jones officiating. Family and friends called Friday Jan. 4, and before the service Saturday. Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Indiana National Guard Ceremonial Unit.
