Mary Jane (Hamilton) Woods, 75, of Morgantown

Mary Jane (Hamilton) Woods, 75, of Morgantown, passed away Monday evening, Dec. 31, 2012, at Morgantown Health Care-Inn.

Mary Jane was born July 10, 1937 in Morgantown to the late William “Walter” and Edith (Winegar) Hamilton. She was a 1955 graduate of Morgantown High School and worked as a soda jerk for Armstrong Drugs in Morgantown during her early years. Mary Jane went on to have a successful career as a regional manager for Avon products, retiring in 1992, after more than 25 years of service. After retirement, she worked in sales for Village Homes in Columbus.

Mary Jane was a former member of Morgantown United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school at First Christian Church of Morgantown for many years. She was also a former member of Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority. Mary Jane loved being with her family and enjoyed collecting hundreds of family photos that she proudly displayed in her home. She also enjoyed reading, ballroom dancing and feeding the birds and squirrels. She loved being with her family and spending time with her dog “Troubles.”

Mary Jane is survived by her life companion of 28 years, George F. “Joe” Stover of Morgantown; children: Roberta Sue (Ted) Saras of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Michael Dale (Teresa) and James Matthew (Shelly) Woods, both of Martinsville. Mary Jane will be remembered by her six grandchildren, Michelle Dyer and Michael Woods, both of Martinsville, Alexandra Saras of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Nick, Corey and Brent Hamblen, all of Martinsville; and five great-grandchildren. 

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Charlene Holland. 

Father John Hall will conduct a funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 5 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends can call from 4-8 p.m. Friday Jan. 4 at the funeral home and from 10 a.m until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent in honor of Mary Jane to the Alzheimer’s Association South Central Chapter, PO Box 547, Columbus, IN 47202.
