Henry Wagler, age 93, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Dec. 29, 2012 at his residence in Brown County.
He was born in Daviess County on Oct. 10, 1919, to the late Daniel and Lea (Lengacher) Wagler. Henry married his loving wife of 66 years, Frances B. Slaubaugh on Jan. 23, 1945 in Loogootee. Frances preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 2012.
In 1950, Henry and his wife moved to Brown County to farm and support the ministries of Bean Blossom Mennonite Church. He worked as a farmer all his life, raising crops and dairy cattle. Henry was a former pastor of Bean Blossom Mennonite Church, and he also was a school bus driver for Brown County Schools with over 20 years of service. He was a past board member of the Farm Service Agency and Weeping Willow Cemetery in Bean Blossom.
Henry was a devoted father to Lorene (Gary) Link, Edward E. (Pamela), David J. (Eulala), Kenneth L. (Lesa), Lloyd W. (Crystal) and Darryl S. (Jackie) Wagler, all of Brown County, Howard L. (Cathy) Wagler of Hutchinson, Kan. and Dorothea M. (Raymond) Troyer of Goshen. He will be remembered by his brother, Louis Wagler of Hartville, Ohio; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Henry was preceded in death by five sisters, Rosa Wagler, Lena Knepp, Tillie Gingerich, Anna Yoder and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Knepp; four brothers, Simon, Elmer, Amos and Pete Wagler; a grandson, Todd Wagler; and a great-grandson, Noah Wagler.
Pastors Gary Link and Howard Wagler will conduct a private family graveside service on Thursday Jan. 3 at Weeping Willow Cemetery in Bean Blossom. A memorial service for Henry will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Bean Blossom Mennonite Church, 5046 N. State Road 135 in Bean Blossom. Friends can call from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 2 at the church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
